Windows 95 debut: August 23-24, 1995

It's possible that Apple's Steve Jobs learned a few things about marketing from Microsoft's introduction of Windows 95 on August 24, 1995.

In this series of four Computer Corner reports, I speak with Microsoft chairman Bill Gates about an operating system update that captured the imagination of computer users around the world. You’ll see how retail stores in Dallas-Fort Worth welcomed the onslaught of buyers at midnight with searchlights and music, and how computer professionals assembled to hear from Gates and comic Jay Leno in a promotional closed-circuit presentation that was beamed from Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington, to big screens all over (before streaming was a thing).

This was the first (and really the only) time that Computer Corner was seen outside of its traditional lunchtime time slot on WFAA, and I’m still proud of the result.
